Since we've been married, we've had the pleasure/displeasure of shopping at some interestingly named grocery stores:
Chicago: Village Foods
During our 2 years shopping there, they really improved. By the end of our 2nd year living there, they were able to run more than one debit card at time.
Pittsburgh: Giant Eagle
Okay so we didn't ever live here but we almost went there for grad school. When we went to visit we asked where people bought their groceries. "GineEgle" "ummmmm excuse me?" "The GineEgle on the Sawsawd" Translation: the Giant Eagle on the Southside. We could not live there we decided. We still fondly talk about it what if we had to go to the Sawsawd for groceries.
The Woodlands (Houston): HEB
what in the world does that even stand for? To mix it up, we would sometimes lovingly call it Heeb or Hebrons.
Kansas City: Hen House
Did we live out in the country on a farm or something? (I guess our mail lady did drive her own car...) I would call this store Chicken Shack to crack myself up sometimes.
St. Louis: Schnucks
Schnucks?! Come here my schnuckems! Are you kidding me? That was pretty much the only choice for groceries there. To be safe, we always went to "Shnucks on the Hill" as opposed to "Ghetto Schnucks," which was closer. You ain't in Supercenter land anymore Dorothy.
And Raleigh may have my favorite grocery store name:
Harris Teeter
I heard, sadly, we missed the Piggly Wiggly, it went out already, but when my neighbor told me Harris Teeter was my nearest grocery store I thought she was kidding. Who decides on these names? Harris Teetertotter? Harris Teether? Only time will tell how we will refer to the ole H.T.

Harris Teeter has double and triple coupon days. You're gonna love it!
HEB stands for H. E. Butts....the name of the founder.
When visiting my friend in Austin she said HEB stands for "Here, everything's better!"
Harris Teeter! That's the store by my sister's house in NC. They have Krispy Kremes!
