a new addition to the family!
Gotcha! This is not the kind of addition that takes 9 months to grow. The gestational waiting period for this new French horn was about 4 years and three months. You see, this incredibly talented horn maker in Chicago, Steve Lewis, has a waiting list for him to make you a horn. When Brian put the deposit down to get his name on the waiting list over 4 years ago, Lewis said it would take about 2 years until his horn was ready. Good thing we weren't holding our breath. Luckily, a Lewis came up for sale on the internet (a rarity) a few months later and Brian bought that and has been playing on it ever since...until this week! The new Lewis has arrived.
Some of the first few notes ever played on the new horn:

"All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts" ...and in the wings of my stage, there is music.

Hi Madelyn, I stumbled upon your blog in my "friends and family" folder and was delighted by your funny observations and articulate accounts of life. The grocery store observations were good for a laugh. I remember coming to St. Louis and being incredulous that someone could actually build a chain of stores called "Schnucks". Congrats on the new horn. BTW my daughter had a baby today!
How does Brian like the horn?
You DID get me! Congrats on your newest addition!
Awwwww, look at all your amazing instruments, sitting so neatly in a row, quiet until asked to perform, not making a mess. *sigh* don't you wish the kids would do this? :)
Congratulations on your new addition! Brian looks THRILLED!
Nice! They look great! And how cool to have it made just for you (or Brian as the case is).
