Oh I'm back. Where to begin? I haven't blogged in forever.
Well, our trip was fabulous. Elliott had such a blast playing with all the toys at both Grandparents' houses. Christmas was nice. It was so fun for us to watch him open his presents. He got a lot of books, including many new lift-the-flap interactive books. We are so grateful for those, they'll be a lifesaver at church. We got loaf pans and new cookie sheets. Score!
Brian and I had a great escape to Oklahoma City for a friend's wedding. It was a Catholic wedding, quite dignified and serious, complete with Communion. Since they are musicians, they had incredible music during the ceremony. The groom had arranged several beautiful pieces for horn quartet and string trio and organ and it sounded amazing in the Euro-style cathedral. Then the reception was just the fanciest thing we'd ever been to. They'd rented an entire floor of the nicest hotel downtown. I was really impressed by the decor/themes at dinner. Each table represented a different city that the bride and groom had either lived in or visited. And at each place setting was a postcard with your name on it in the address section and the picture on the back was a photo from their own personal collection of pictures they'd taken on that trip. Everyone at the table had a different picture on their postcard. So cool! We sat at the San Francisco table which we found by picking up a miniature cardstock suitcase with our name on it when we got to the reception. Inside the suitcase was the name of the table we would be sitting at. The dinner was great and afterwards Brian and I danced to a live jazz combo. It was such a fun and long day. The next morning we went to the Oklahoma City Temple before heading back to FW. It was such a nice break to be free of mommy duties for a day and a half! My parents said Elliott did fine, didn't even act like he missed us the whole time. But when we got back he sure let us have it! Much screaming ensued.
Our time in Houston was also really nice. We ate some amazing Mexican food, enjoyed 80 degree weather (not the whole time though), visited the Children's Museum, and spent time with old friends! Oh yeah and hung out with Brian's family which was awesome. Our new nephew is adorable!
Thanks to listening to Harry Potter on cd, we had an okay 2 day drive back to Kansas City at the end of which Brian said, "I don't feel so good." And he suffered an achy, violent cold from which he is now nearly recovered.
